The AT-LP8X showcases a new a J-shaped aluminium tonearm that automatically raises at the end of the record and stops the motor – a rare feature for a direct-drive turntable, which the company says not only reduces needle wear or damage but also gives users the freedom for convenient, hassle-free listening.

In addition, the tonearm comes equipped with the new AT-LT10 headshell, also launching now, which connects it to the black AT-VM95E (HFC 444) cartridge. The turntable’s MDF box plinth, adjustable feet, thick rubber-damped, anti-resonance, die-cast aluminium platter and 2.5mm rubber mat have been designed to work together in an attempt to temper unwanted noise and vibration.

The stylus can be replaced or interchanged with any of the five additional styli in the VM95 line and the tonearm’s VTA (vertical tracking angle) adjustment and sub-counterweight enable the use of a broad range of other carts.

The semi-automatic turntable boasts three speeds (33, 45 and 78rpm), a newly designed low-torque, direct-drive DC servo motor to improve wow and flutter performance and a phono-level output to provide pure, direct transmission of the cartridge’s signal. Also bundled are a detachable RCA output cable (dual RCA male-to-dual RCA male with ground), 45rpm adapter and removable hinged dust cover.

The AT-LT10 is a universal mount headshell for 4-pin turntable cartridges with or without threaded inserts with an ultra-lightweight aluminium die-cast body, elongated through holes to enable precise cartridge positioning and overhang adjustment. It features OFC (oxygen-free copper) lead wires and a slip-resistant finger lift to allow the stylus to be placed precisely in the groove.

The AT-LP8X turntable is priced at £860, while the AT-LT10 headshell will set you back £50.

There’s also the new ATN3600LE stylus, designed for users of the Sound Burger AT-SB727 (HFC 514)/AT-SB2022 and all variants of the AT-LP60/X turntables. Featuring a 0.3 x 0.7 elliptical stylus, the ATN3600LE is equipped with a conical diamond profile allowing it to sit lower in the groove, accessing information that, according to A-T, a conical stylus is unable to reach. According to the company: “This results in a higher frequency response and reduced noise from surface scratches, providing an enhanced listening experience.” It’s priced at £25.
