November 2023 issue now on sale
Roughly on an annual basis we utilise our world-famous Group Test to compare the digital music streaming services competing for your subs. Of all the areas we cover, this is the one that evolves most prolifically as each provider looks to up its game when it comes to the size of its library, quality of the delivery and price of family sharing packages.
On top of that there’s a new impetus towards personalisation. Since our last roundup, Spotify has introduced its DJ service which it proudly announces is: “An AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can choose what to play for you. This feature will deliver a curated lineup of music alongside commentary around the tracks and artists we think you’ll like in a stunningly realistic voice.”
That “stunningly realistic voice,” by the way, is smooth American with hilariously slick patter, not unlike the protagonist on The Chemical Brothers’ Hey Boy, Hey Girl. But more about that next month.
For now take a look at the state of play of music streaming services and also check out our in-depth appreciation of the original Britpop heroes, The Kinks, and all the latest product releases in our bumper 16-page Audiofile section.
Tons to keep you up-to-date and entertained.
Enjoy!
