Hi-fi specialist Pro-Ject has introduced two Primary turntables aimed, it says, at customers that want to experience true audio qualityon a budget. With a range of award-winning decks in its continuously expanding lineup, the new Primary turntables’ design takes inspiration from its accomplished Elemental and Essential II models. Like the Essential player, the Primary is a traditional layout with an MDF plinth, platter and felt mat. The plinth is available in matte black, white or red finishes, and a detachable dust cover is included.

Pro-Ject’s Box Design series of compact hi-fi components has been available for over 10 years, but nine new additions havenow been added in the shapeof the DS2 range, while moreare expected before the end of the year. All new models offer improved four-layer PCB boards for shorter signal paths and are available in a choice of either black and eucalyptus or silver and walnut (pictured) finishes. The £785 Pre Box DS2 Digitalis a compact preamp, offeringa built-in MM/MC phono stage, headphone amplifier, 32-bit/ 768kHz PCM and DSD256-capable DAC and aptX Bluetooth. The Amp Box DS2 (top unit) is built around a low-energy Class D amplifier module to provide high output power for demanding speakers and is available in both Stereo (£520) and Mono (£475) guises.

Hot on the heels of its Essential II (HFC 376), Pro-Ject has unveiled its follow-up Essential III. Manufactured from high-quality MDF and wrapped in a high-gloss paint finish (in a choice of red, white or black), the design will be familiar to those that know the II – even down to the three anti-vibration feet. The Essential III comes pre-fitted with an 8. 6in aluminium tonearm and Ortofon OM 10 cartridge (the II had the OM 5E).

Pro-Ject informs us that the new RPM 9 Carbon has been introduced to satisfy the needs of high-end audio enthusiasts that want a record player that stands apart, and with the same 'tear drop' chassis as its RPM 9. 2 Evolution, it should certainly stand out from the pack. The RPM 9 Carbon is supplied with a 9CC Evolution Tonearm pre-installed. This 9in tonearm has a conical carbon fibre tube and inverted bearing design and is supplied with a 5-Pin to RCA Connect-IT CC cable.

Launched in early 2015, Pro-Ject’s 2 Xperience SB design proved to be very popular (we reviewed the DC version in HFC 397 and gave it five stars). Now comesthe 2 Xperience SB S-Shape (above). The £1,299 turntable has the same features as its predecessor, but adds an s-shaped tonearm made from an aluminium alloy with high internal damping properties and a detachable headshell. A wide variety of Pro-Ject and Ortofon headshells are said to be compatible.

Following the release of it'sRPM 9 Carbonturntable, Pro-Ject has now unveiled its top-of-the-range RPM 10 Carbon. The company describes the new vinyl spinner as being created to "give vinyl fans something that not only delivers high-end sound, but that also stands apart as an outstanding object of desire". And so consequently it boasts the same tear drop design as its predecessor (the RPM 10. 1 Evolution) and the aforementioned RPM 9 Carbon.
