Arendal Sound debuts 1528 speaker range
The driver configuration incorporates a proprietary 28mm tweeter and dual 203mm mid/bass drivers to provide what the company describes as an expansive soundstage with pinpoint imaging and remarkable detail. Designed and manufactured in-house, the driver utilises: “a unique waveguide technology that minimises distortion and provides a wider dispersion, ensuring immersive listening no matter where you are in the room.”
The mid/bass drivers are crafted from a fibre material chosen for its ability to balance stiffness and lightness, enabling them to produce a: “deep, controlled bass response without sacrificing midrange clarity. This results in a speaker that can effortlessly handle complex musical passages and dynamic movie soundtracks with equal finesse.”
The cabinet is constructed from high-density HDF, chosen for its acoustic properties and resistance to resonances that can colour the sound. The exterior is finished in a satin paint, available in both Matte Black and Matte White.
Internally, the cabinet is braced to eliminate unwanted vibrations and the bass reflex system – featuring a flared port design – has been created in an attempt to ensure optimal airflow and reduce port noise, the goal being to provide a: “tight, impactful bass performance”.
Using only components including precision capacitors and inductors, the crossover is engineered to maintain phase integrity and minimise signal loss. It incorporates advanced thermal management, protecting the components from over heating and maintaining consistent performance even during extended high-volume playback.
The speakers come with adjustable settings to tailor the sound to any environment. The rear panel features binding posts for bi-amping or bi-wiring, as well as a switchable boundary compensation control that adapts the cabinet to compensate for placement near walls or corners, preventing bass build-up and helping to ensure a balanced sound.
The range consists of the 1528 Tower 8 three-way floorstander, which pairs the 28mm tweeter with a 127mm midrange driver and four of the 203mm bass drivers to produce a claimed 89.5dB sensitivity (4ohm). It measures 290 x 1,350 x 548mm (WxHxD without feet), weighs 79kg and is priced at £7,900 per pair.
The three-way 1528 Monitor 8 floorstander sees the tweeter paired with the same midrange driver as its sibling and two of the 203mm bass drivers. It has a quoted sensitivity of 85dB (4ohm), measures (WxHxD) 290 x 808 x 448mm, weighs 48kg and is priced at £4,900 per pair.
The 1528 Bookshelf 8 three-way standmount is the same as the 1528 Monitor 8, but with just a single 203mm bass driver and 84dB sensitivity (4ohm). Measuring 290 x 555 x 368mm (WxHxD), it weighs 30kg and costs £3,800 per pair.
The 1529 Slim 8 is the same as the Bookshelf, but as the name suggests in a slimmer (290 x 555 x 198mm) cabinet for wall-mounting. It weighs 23kg and is priced at £2,900 per pair. Supports come in the shape of the aluminium 1528 Stand 8, measuring 470 x 568 x 470mm (WxHxD) and costing £1,100 per pair, plus the 1528 Puck Pros decouplers. With up to 10mm of height adjustability, these come in a black finish and cost £350 for eight pieces.
