OMEX Isolation Symphony isolation supports
The new kid on the equipment isolation product block, OMEX Isolation’s Symphony supports come in two performance levels and a choice of two or three discs. The three-layer versions have an extra centre disc to further control resonances. Both Symphony A and S are designed to be an upgrade to the existing supports on equipment and speakers. Each of the two Symphony A discs will accommodate up to 45kg and the Symphony S up to 80kg.
Each support has micro-grooved upper and lower discs to grip the equipment and the supporting rack or shelf. The centre piece of each upper disc contains a ‘tuning fork’ to dampen and control the flow of resonances.
The Symphony A is machined from an Aluminium Polymer Compound (APC), which differs in density to that of its APC tuning fork. The Symphony S tuning fork is 24ct gold-plated brass to give a soft barrier between the brass and the stainless-steel disc. Each tuning fork sits within its own chamber and is surrounded with a damping compound. When used as a speaker support, the Symphony’s tuning fork also acts as a spike shoe. Sandwiched between each disc of the Symphony layers is an arrangement of ball bearings – stainless-steel in the Symphony A and ceramic in the S.
I alternatively place a set of four of each support under my turntable and play Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The deep and extended drum roll during the opening is noticeably cleaner and more controlled with the Symphony A fitted. The effect is slightly improved with the Symphony S. I next compare the outcomes of using the devices with my floorstanding speakers and with both versions notice an improvement in sound (more so with the Symphony S) while the twittering of the strings is both clearer and crisper.
The beautifully made Symphony supports do a great job of providing effective isolation. Symphony 2A and 3A supports cost £300/£400 and Symphony 2S and 3S £600/£900 for a set of four respectively. NR
