It might have the appearance of a speaker that looks like it’s sinking into the ground on which it’s standing, but there’s a theory behind the rather unique design of XTZ Sound’s Tune 4 loudspeaker. Believing that the vast majority of people that have hi-fi setups at home tend to place their speakers below ear level – thus resulting in a less defined sound, due to the tweeter being off axis relative to the listener’s ear – Tune 4 has come up with the tilted baffle. And what about those that do have their speakers positioned at ear level, we hear you ask. Well XTZ Sound has thought of this and added a special foot.

Electricity is a vital ingredient in any home hi-fi system of course. But while on the one hand it’s essential in powering our music systems, on the other it can affect hi-fi performance if not handled properly. Think of it as the fuel that’s required to get a car running – if you want to get the best performance, you need to ensure that its being fed the cleanest ‘fuel’ possible. Our mains supply can be affected by numerous factors, whether it be the journey it takes from the power station to your home, the other components that are in the vicinity of your system or air-borne signals from smartphones, wi-fi or Bluetooth devices.

EVO3 Initium is IsoTek’s new entry-level power cable, designed to take the place off the standard black mains leads that are typically supplied with hi-fi components. Cheaply produced mains cables are widely recognised as suffering from the ill-effects of mains-borne ‘noise’, which takes a number of forms. ‘Differential mode noise’ is exacerbated by the switch-mode power supplies that are common in many devices, from computers to kitchen appliances. ‘Common mode noise’ is ever-increasing due to wireless networking creating airborne interference.
