When Naim launched the original Uniti all-in-one system in 2009, it represented a sea changeto the design philosophy of the Salisbury-based brand. In recent years, Naim has expanded the Uniti range and announced the biggest change so far with the introduction of four all-new models that previewed at the The Indulgence Show held in Hammersmith, London in October. The new lineup comprises the Uniti Atom (£1,600, pictured above) – claiming 2x 40W RMS into 8ohm, Uniti Core server (£1,650), Uniti Star (£2,999) – claiming 2x 70W into 8ohm, and Uniti Nova (£3,800, below) – claiming 2x 80W RMS into 8ohm. All are built around new software and offer streaming support for 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD128 playback.

Building on the success of its Recommended badge-winning Mu-so wireless music system (HFC 391), Naim has unveiled the Mu-so Qb. Described by the manufacturer as combining Naim’s priorities of high-quality, engaging sound and understated design, Mu-so Qb appears in a more compact chassis and boasts a speaker arrangement of five offset and angled drivers (two tweeters, two mids and a woofer), although the bass port of its sibling has been ditched to keep size down. Instead, two tuned pistonic bass radiators work alongside a custom-made woofer driven by the 100W amplifier. The Mu-so Qb can connect to your home wi-fi and can wirelessly stream hi-res music stored on your network or browse and play tracks using Spotify Connect, Tidal, internet radio or Airplay.

Since their debut at The Bristol Show in February (HFC 435), Naim has released further details about its three new standalone network streamers. Each model is built around the same streaming platform found in its integrated Uniti family and includes the ND5 XS 2 (£1,999), NDX 2 (£4,999) andND555 (£12,999). All models support PCM files up to 32-bit/ 384kHz and DSD128 via UPnP and provide access to Tidal, Spotify and Internet Radio network streaming services, together with AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth and Roon compatibility. The ND5 XS 2 does without a display or remote control and, with no front panel controls, is reliant on Naim’s Control app, while the NDX 2 and ND555 (pictured) are fitted with a full colour LCD display as found on the Uniti models.

New player 'delivers more music with CD rips that most players do with hi-res sources. ' Naim has announced the new range topping NDS network streamer. The brief for the NDS is to comfortably exceed the performance of the highly regarded NDX. To this end, the NDS borrows design and construction techniques from the more expensive Naim components including a brass sub chassis to which the main boards are then attached on spring type connectors.

Earlier this month, Neil Young announced his intention to remove his music from streaming services due to the poor quality that they provide. In a social media outburst that appeared on both Facebook and Twitter, Young told the world: "Streaming has ended for me. I hope this is ok for my fans. It’s not because of the money, although my share (like all the other artists) was dramatically reduced by bad deals made without my consent.
