Musical Fidelity introduces LS3/5A and LS5/9 standmount speakers
Musical Fidelity has unveiled two new standmount speakers: the LS3/5A and LS5/9. The two-way LS3/5A was originally designed for listening places where space is limited and the goal was a linear frequency response down to 100Hz. It boasts a closed-type cabinet and the company claims: “the midrange is extremely detailed and realistic… the soundstage and imaging of vocals and instruments is truly extraordinary”.
Designed to work best in a near/mid-field listening distance between 2m and 4m away from the listener, it features a 110mm cone mid/bass driver, a 19mm dome tweeter and claimed sensitivity of 82.5dB (15ohm). The 12mm birch plywood cabinet measures 190 x 305 x 165mm (WxHxD), weighs 4.9kg per speaker and is priced at £2,350 per pair.
Meanwhile, the LS5/9 is a two-way bass reflex speaker originally designed for recording studio applications. The cabinet is made of 9mm birch plywood with a cherry veneer finish, it has a 210mm cone mid/bass driver, 34mm tweeter with phase correction and claims 89dB (8ohm) sensitivity. It measures 275 x 460 x 285mm, weighs 12kg per cabinet and costs £4,100.
