New power amps from Cambridge

Designed to appeal to vinyl enthusiasts owning multiple cartridges, turntables or tonearms, Cyrus’new Phono Signature preamplifier boasts four inputs engineered to accurately match the exact specification of the cartridge. Adjustment is, therefore, provided for MC cartridges in gain, resistance and capacitance, facilitating up to 160 possible combinations. The Phono Signature also includes a high-capacity and very low-noise DC power supply that enables the preamp to provide, what Cyrus refers to as “an extremely wide dynamic range”. It’s claimed that performance is much improved thanks to the inclusion of a RIAA passive de-emphasis filter – which uses metallised polyester capacitors – and an optional external PSX-R2 power supply that provides regulated DC power for the signal amplification.

Getting its first official showing at the High End Show in Munich, Cyrus has unveiled its new ONE integrated amplifier. It’s not the first time that the Huntingdon firm has given the ‘1’ model name to an integrated amplifier, and the original Cyrus 1 some 30 years ago provided the footprint for its compact range of components that continue today. The reimagined ONE has a distinctly contemporary aesthetic with two large front panel controls for source selection and volume level control. Internally it offers a claimed 2x 100W maximumpower output and utilises the third generation of the company’s hybrid Class D technology with automatic Speaker Impedance Detection (SID) circuit to instantly measure the speaker impedance connected to its bi-wire-compatible speaker binding posts and to adjust the amplifier to suit.
