Jazzed music streaming service launches

Billed as the the world's first music and video service dedicated entirely to jazz music, jazzed has launched offering an integrated experience for fans to listen, watch and read about the popular music format. The service features an impressive selection of hand-curated audio channels, exclusive video content, podcasts, documentaries and interviews.

Launched by jazzed CEO and former Jazz Fm boss Jonathan Arendt, jazzed boasts 40-plus individual curated channels focusing on everything from the sound of New Orleans and Polish jazz to artist-only havens and label roundups.

Meanwhile, the platform’s video content offers a selection of music videos, artist interviews, live concerts and sessions while its editorial material will be drawn from a variety of sources led by an exclusive relationship with US jazz publication JAZZIZ.

Initially available from launch on iOS, web player and via Sonos, there are currently two subscription tiers with a third due to launch later in the year. The Free tier offers 10 hand-curated audio channels and the ability to watch concerts, sessions, music videos and read a selection of articles, reviews and interviews. It will, of course, be populated with advertisements.

Stepping up to the £5.99 (or £59.99 a year) jazzed+ tier ditches the ads, offers access to all of the curated content and exclusive videos and allows the user to skip tracks. Both tiers are streamed in a variable bit-rate in an advanced AAC+ compression format.

Expected "later in the year," the jazzedpremium tier costs £14.99 a month (or £149.99 a year), offers more options in terms of curated audio channels and exclusive content, an advanced search facility and listen off-line functionality. Most importantly, it sees the audio quality increase to what's described as "HD lossless audio (FLAC 16-bit)"

HFC understands that versions of the service for Android are in the works. Find out more about jazzed here .
