Big news has reached us from Roksan concerning the latest addition to its K3 Series – the CD Di, which is acombination of CompactDisc player and digital-to-analogue converter that expands the range to a greater choice of input sources, the manufacturer tells us. We loved Roksan's first set of K3 components, launched earlier this year, when we partnered the CD player with matching integrated amplifier and the combo received a well-earned Editor's Choice back in the April issue (HFC 396). Roksan continues: "The idea behind the CD Di is to provide audio enthusiasts with a high-quality digital source that will not only play an existing CD library to the expected audiophile standard, but willalso host an array of other digital sources as one audiophile 'hub'. By incorporating both CD player and DAC into one box, users can save space by avoiding the need for extra boxes and achieve consistent audio performance across digital platforms.

30 years after it launched its first turntable – the Xerxes – Roksan has announced its latest vinyl spinner, the Oxygene 30. Supplied with a 9in Pro-Ject 9CC Evolution tonearm and Roksan’s XPS-7 power supply/speed controller, the Oxygene 30 comes in a gloss white finish and you’ll need to select your own choice of cartridge to partner it. The Oxygene 30 has a complex, multi-layered four-piece plinth design boasting a new high-mass mounting block for housing the motor. This has been designed to ensure unwanted resonances from the motor are transferred into the block and attenuated significantly before reaching the top plinth.

Meet the latest update to Roksan’s famed Radius turntable, the Radius 7. Boasting the same decoupled dual-layer plinth design as the company’s Xerxes record deck, but in a new precision-machined ‘glass-effect’ finish, the Radius 7 features a high-accuracy, temperature-compensated crystal speed control system, claimed to maintain pitch-perfect speed stability at both 33 and 45rpm. The Radius 7 comes supplied as standardwith the Roksan Nima tonearm, which is a low-friction, uni-pivot design that allowsany pick-up cartridge to navigate the groove accurately to a fine tolerance. Assembled byhand, the aluminium alloy arm tube boaststhe same internal wiring as Roksan’s previousflagship tonearm, the Artemiz.

Do you know what Roon is? Do you think you need to know? Should you even care? When hi-fi manufacturers launch a new amplifier or loudspeaker, the question immediately turns to its styling, specification and indeed performance. Rarely – if ever – does one ever end up asking: “Why do I need it?”, or “How will owning such a thing make my life better?” The problem for Roon founder Enno Vandermeer is that his product needs a whole lot of explanation before people can take a view about whether they actually want it. “We created an experience that people were missing. The only trouble is, they didn’t know it!”, he says.
