Introducing Deco Audio Products
Then there’s the new Step Standard, a step-up transformer for MC cartridges to interface into MM phono inputs, the company says it has a ratio of 1:20, making it ideal for most normal-to-low output MC carts. “With a conventional 47k MM phono input, the Step standard will present the cartridge with an easy 100ohm impedance, which suits the majority of common MC designs,” Deco explains. It comes in a black anodised aluminium enclosure with copper wired transformers, a copper hook-up wire and gold-plated RCA sockets. The price is £200.
Finally for now there’s the Curve Standard, an all-new MM phono stage designed to offer high-performance at a reasonable price. It is a valve design using dual triodes and ECC83 and ECC82 valves. Its low and high impedance switchable output stage means it can be used into almost any amplifier load and users can choose between Anode Follower and Cathode Follower output stages at the flick of a switch. It boasts relay switching for short signal paths and a half-width aluminium chassis, with acrylic fascia and portal window.
A matching Step Standard 20 step-up transformer is available, making the combination suitable for most low-to-medium output MC carts. The price is £550. Deco is also marketing the Design by Mr K TVC (Transformer Volume Control) preamplifiers in the UK. Made in Hong Kong by Advanced Avionics, these preamps come in two versions: the PPA-01 with RCA in and outputs (£2,125) and the PPA-02B (£2,850) with both XLR and RCA in and outputs.
Both feature high-quality rotary controls allowing a fine 59-step level of attenuation from the C core Transformer Volume Controls. There is also a global level of gain adjustment available for additional system matching.
