Arcam unveils rPhono and rPlay
Following on from our review of Arcam's classy rHead headphone amplifer (HFC 420), the company has added to the rSeries with the rPlay and rPhono.
The rPlay adds network audio streaming services and internet radio to any system that it's partnered with. Using DTS PlayFi, Apple Airplay and UPnP-enabled music sources, it's compatible with Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and Pandora, along with many more, thanks to regular updates.
Designed specifically to upgrade any built-in phono stage or to add a turntable input to an existing amplifier, the rPhono is the latest addition to Arcam’s extensive Black Box rSeries. Moving-coil users will benefit from precision impedance matching using high-quality trimmers instead of discrete steps, while moving-magnet users have a wide variety of capacitance options to choose from. An optionally selectable low frequency “rumble” filter is claimed to eliminate the effects of warping or pressing irregularities, which can be present on some vinyl.
Both products will be publically launched at the Bristol Show and are expected to cost £399 each. You can find out more about the rPlay here and the rPhono here.
