ATC unleashes SCM19AT loudspeakers
ATC describes its new SCM19 Active Tower speaker system as delivering "the company’s reference-quality audio from an elegantly curved floor-standing design". Measuring 370mm wide and 980mm in height, it will no doubt be familiar to seasoned fans of the company's speakers as it is acoustically identical to the two-way SCM19 (tested in HFC 390).
The 25mm tweeter employs a unique dual-suspension system, which has been designed to suppress rocking modes even at high power output levels. The configuration of a short edge-wound voice coil in a long, narrow magnetic gap is claimed to deleiver exceptionally low distortion throughout the operating band and removes the need for ferrofluids. The soft-domed diaphragm is said to extend the high-frequency range in order to offer a smooth off-axis response.
Meanwhile, the 150mm ATC SL mid/bass driver boasts a carefully weighted doped fabric cone with a 75mm soft dome, which is driven by an ‘under-hung’ (short coil/long gap) motor using a huge 9kg ‘Super Linear’ magnet system unique to ATC. The 75mm ribbon wire voice coil is milled and wound in-house and the company's familiar under-hung motor topology maintains linear coil force and inductance, even at high drive levels, keeping distortion low – or so it claims.
The braced, sealed and curved multi-layer laminated cabinet is precision-finished in a choice of cherry or black ash real-wood veneer. Drive units are individually powered by an upgraded bi-amp pack , comprising ATC’s discrete MOSFET Class A/B modules, providing a claimed 32W of continuous power to the HF section and 150W to the bass. System input comes via balanced XLR ports.
The SCM19AT is available to buy now for £4,990 and you can find out more details here or check the full spec below.
