Audio-Technica unleashes limited-edition ATH-WBLTD headphones

Audio-Technica has announced the release of its latest limited-edition wooden headphones, the ATH-WBLTD. You’ll need to get your skates on as there are just 300 pairs available worldwide crafted from the same wood species used to build rare, high-end stringed instruments to deliver: “a superior sound quality alongside an exceptionally beautiful design”.

Building on the design of the previously released ATH-WB2022 wireless wooden headphones, which came out in celebration of the company’s 60th anniversary in 2022, the ATH-WBLTDs have been tuned specifically for analogue connections with new 45mm HD drivers enhanced by a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated diaphragm.

The housings are constructed from three layers of solid flame maple, walnut and mahogany. The company reveals: “Chosen for a beautiful grain finish and superior acoustic and vibration-damping properties, the housings are hand-polished by skilled artisans at Fujigen Inc. – a leading Japanese manufacturer of guitars. Built to last, the wood will mature alongside the headphones, making for a truly unique possession that can be carefully nurtured over generations.”

The stitched ergonomic earpads and headband are made from smooth, durable sheepskin and there’s a lightweight, high-strength aluminium alloy frame.

The ATH-WBLTD boasts a swivel fold-flat design for convenient carrying and comes with two detachable 1.2m (cables with A2DC connector at the headphone end, one dual-sided balanced cable with 4.4mm 5-pole plugs, the other with 3.5mm (stereo mini-plugs and a 6.3mm (adapter for connection to a wide variety of audio devices.

Available to buy now for £1,600, you can find out more about the ATH-WBLTD here.
