August issue now on sale

Welcome to the August issue
There’s so much packed into this Summer Special issue we had to kneel on the cover to cram it all in. It’s so full, in fact, that we couldn’t find space for a list of recommended reads for you to dip into between pina coladas, so I’m going to sneak some in here.

I Was There: Dispatches From A Life In Rock And Roll is a great memoir by the Outside Organisation’s PR to the stars Alan Edwards, chock-full of anecdotes about David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, Debbie Harry, The Spice Girls, Michael Jackson et al. (Simon & Schuster, £17.39)

Rebel Girl: My Life As A Feminist Punk is a fab autobiography by Kathleen Hanna, the force of nature behind Riot Grrl heroes Bikini Kill (William Collins, £15), Down With The System: A Memoir (Of Sorts) is the work of Serj Tankian of System Of A Down (Headline, £20), Freaks Out! Weirdos, Misfits And Deviants – The Rise And Fall Of Righteous Rock ‘N’ Roll is the latest splendidly opinionated tome from Luke Haines of The Auteurs and Black Box Recorder (Nine Eight, £16.50) and Joel Selvin’s Drums & Demons, The Tragic Journey Of Jim Gordon brilliantly tells the story of the troubled sticksman to the stars (Diversion, £21).

There’s plenty to read there, plus all the usual useful stuff in this issue. That should keep you going.

Have a good one!
