UK company Cambridge Audio has introduced its new, top-of-the-range digital-to-analogue converter and headphone amplifier, the DacMagic 200M. With integrated Bluetooth for wireless connectivity and what the company describes as: “a more powerful headphone output and superior DAC technology”, the DacMagic 200M is driven by dual ESS Sabre chips capable of handling PCM files up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512 natively. It’s also the first product from the company to natively support MQA.

The dual mono configuration means each DAC processes the left and right channels separately, which, the company says, results: “in a performance that is astonishingly free of distortion, incredibly precise and has superb dynamic range”.

Three pre-set filters help reduce noise generated by the digital-to-analogue conversion process, with each offering a different sonic option depending on the source material.

The DacMagic 200M additionally features a high-quality headphone amplifier with 6.3mm output and uses traditional class A/B amplification. Digital inputs include two coaxial, two optical and one USB type-B, while Bluetooth aptX support is on hand for connection to a smartphone or tablet. The DacMagic 200M has both balanced and unbalanced analogue connections, enabling it to connect to all types of existing audio systems.

Housed in a steel and aluminium chassis measuring 215 x 52 x 191mm (WxHxD) and weighing in at 1.2kg, it comes in a sleek, minimal Lunar Grey finish. Costing £450 and available to buy now, you can find out more about the DacMagic 200M here.
