Japanese company FiiO has launched its BTR13 portable DAC and FT1 closed-back headphones. The BTR13 features 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone outputs and dual CS43131 DACs alongside support for aptX HD, LDAC and aptX LL Bluetooth.

It also features a dedicated three-position toggle switch, via which users are able to switch between the PC/BT/Phone modes – allowing the BTR13 to work as an external USB computer sound card for headphones, Bluetooth Audio decoder and audio dongle DAC. It can be connected to a PC/Mac for use as a USB DAC and headphone amp.

The DAC features dual Cirrus Logic CS43131 fully balanced chips and is able to output up to a claimed 220mW. There’s a 10-band Parametric Equaliser and the BTR13 is available in either Black or Blue. Weighing 28.6g, with a full-colour 0.96in screen, built-in omnidirectional mic for Bluetooth voice calls and built-in belt-clip, the FiiO BTR13 is priced at £64.

Featuring 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced connections, a silver-plated oxygen-free cable and a claimed 10Hz-40kHz frequency response, the FT1 sports a closed-back design with 60mm dynamic drivers housed in real wooden cups made from FAS-grade American Black Walnut. The wood’s smooth grain is unique to each pair and the company says its high density helps to reduce cavity resonance and minimise standing waves.

The FT1’s diaphragm primarily consists of paper wood fibres, utilising 90-year-old spruce wood from Northern Europe. Often used in the manufacture of musical instruments, this wood is known for assisting in the delivery of a clear sound and natural tone.

It also boasts a 3-axis Adaptive Headband for free rotation at multiple angles and is fitted with breathable fabric earpads. The high-density breathable mesh design is planned to dissipate heat buildup between the ear cushions and the listener’s ears. The side of the ear cushions is made of protein leather. 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced cables come supplied, both made using oxygen-free copper-plated silver wire to ensure a highly transparent and robust sound signature. The FiiO FT1 costs £140.
