Sony introduces WF-1000XM5 true wireless earbuds
The WF-1000XM5 has three microphones on each earbud, including dual feedback mics, which Sony says improve low-frequency cancellation performance. “Newly developed, the Integrated Processor V2 unlocks the potential of the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN2e. The unique combination of technology controls the six mics, across both ears, to deliver unprecedented noise-cancelling quality that can be adapted to provide the best performance for your environment.”
The company says the ability to reproduce lower frequencies has also been improved thanks to the new Dynamic Driver X. Plus, the Noise Isolation Earbud Tips feature a unique polyurethane foam material in a bid to reduce noise in the high-frequency range.
By combining the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN2e and Integrated Processor V2, the WF-1000XM5 incorporates precision 24-bit audio processing and high-performance analogue amplification. The result, the company claims, is low distortion and crystal-clear audio reproduction.
There’s support for LDAC and DSEE Extreme to upscale compressed digital music in real time. Additionally, the earbuds feature 360 Reality Audio, which creates an immersive audio experience. The WF-1000XM5 comes equipped with head tracking technology in an effort to create a realistic listening experience by automatically adjusting soundfields to compensate for the user’s head movement. Sounds are aligned with the smartphone screen, even as you move, to involve you more while viewing, making the overall experience more realistic.
The WF-1000XM5 earbuds feature an improved, glossy texture and their shape is modelled with an ergonomic design in an effort to ensure a secure and stable fit at all times. Additionally, these earbuds are approximately 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than their predecessor (WF-1000XM4), which Sony says makes them more comfortable to wear for extended listening periods.
The Noise Isolation Earbud Tips are newly designed with buds in four different sizes, including the ultra-small SS option. The WF-1000XM5 also features Auto Play for an operation-free listening experience. The user can customise the timing of the music to suit their preferences while audio notifications keep them on track with important events, allowing their phone to stay stashed away in a pocket. The device links with Spotify, Endel and Apple Music, and the WH-1000XM5 now supports Auto Play.
The WF-1000XM5 also features Adaptive Sound Control and Speak-to-Chat as well as Multipoint Connect that lets the user pair two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, so when a call comes in, the earbuds automatically know which device is ringing and connects to the right one.
It boasts up to eight hours of battery life and a three-minute charge provides up to 60 minutes of play time. Additionally, Qi technology offers wireless charging.
The earbuds are water-resistant with an IPX4 rating and the WF-1000XM5 uses recycled plastic materials and comes in a choice of black or silver finishes.
