Audio-Technica launches AT-LP5 turntable
Audio-Technica has unveiled it latest turntable, the AT-LP5. First revealed to the world at this year’s IFA show in Berlin, the new deck is a direct-drive vinyl spinner that provides playback for 33 and 45rpm discs. Based on an original design from the sixties, the J-shaped 247mm tonearm has a 17mm overhang and is claimed to minimise tracking errors.
It comes fitted with Audio-Technica’s lightweight AT-HS10 headshell and the exclusive AT95Ex dual moving magnet cartridge. The platter is cast from heavyweight aluminium and comes equipped with a thick heavy rubber material damping mat. Under the hood, the AT-LP5 boasts a built-in switchable phono/line preamp, while a USB output ensures that digitising your vinyl can be done using the bundled Audacity software that’s compatible with both PC and Mac.
Commenting on the new turntable, Audio-Technica’s European President Richard Garrido told HFC: “The LP5 is a hi-fi turntable that offers performance far beyond what many people may expect at the price. Audio-Technica has been innovating in vinyl reproduction since 1962 and our inhouse knowledge, skills and professional audio experience means that we are ready to launch a turntable which will communicate the performance of an artist like nothing else at this level”. The LP5 will is on sale now for £329 and you can find out more information about it here. Look out for a test of it in HFC soon.
