Naim adds to Uniti family
When Naim launched the original Uniti all-in-one system in 2009, it represented a sea change to the design philosophy of the Salisbury-based brand. In recent years, Naim has expanded the Uniti range and announced the biggest change so far with the introduction of four all-new models that previewed at the The Indulgence Show held in Hammersmith, London in October.
The new lineup comprises the Uniti Atom (£1,600, pictured above) – claiming 2x 40W RMS into 8ohm, Uniti Core server (£1,650), Uniti Star (£2,999) – claiming 2x 70W into 8ohm, and Uniti Nova (£3,800, below) – claiming 2x 80W RMS into 8ohm. All are built around new software and offer streaming support for 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD128 playback.
The casework design takes its styling cues from both the company's Mu-so (HFC 391) one-box system and its flagship Statement pre and power amplifier components. Uniti Atom, Nova and Star models have full colour displays and large top-mounted volume controls, and all have an illuminated acrylic base that enables the units to appear to 'float' when viewed from the front.
Functionality from older Unitis has been carried over to the new models, but there are of course some other additions as well. Google Cast is now included, meaning that streaming services not supported natively can be easily sent to each Uniti model from a compatible device. Naim has also added the ability to receive audio via the Audio Return Channel (ARC) on an HDMI connection – this is a standard feature on Uniti Star and Nova models, but an option on the Atom that increases the price to £1,700. The Uniti Star is able to rip CDs using Exact Audio Copy software, which can be stored as WAV or FLAC lossless files to local storage for sharing via UPnP-connected devices. As well as a control app for iOS and Android portable devices, Naim has also developed a two-way remote control that can be paired with different Uniti models around the home for complete control. The Uniti Core is on sale now, followed by the Atom later this month and the Star and Nova models following in early 2017. Click here for more info.
