Yamaha releases new MusicCast family
Yamaha’s MusicCast wireless multi-room speakers have undergone a refresh, with a series of streaming speakers, soundbars and a wireless subwoofer all set for release in September.
First up is the MusicCast 20, which can be used as a standalone speaker, paired or as part of a surround setup. Equipped with wi-fi, AirPlay and Bluetooth (version 4.2), it features a 30mm soft dome tweeter, 90mm mid/bass driver and pair of passive bass radiators. Compatible with a number of streaming services, it will playback FLAC files up to 24-bit/192kHz and offers Alexa voice control compatibility. It‘s available in a black or white finish and costs £230.
The larger MusicCast 50 (above) is also available in the same black and white finishes – as well as birch – for £500. More of a traditional stereo loudspeaker, it boasts the same wi-fi, AirPlay and Bluetooth connectivity, but also adds optical, RCA phono and a 3.5mm mini stereo input. Its two 30mm soft dome tweeters and pair of 100mm mid/bass drivers kick out a claimed 35W per channel into nominal 6ohm loads.
Bringing improved sonics to TVs, the MusicCast Bar 40 and MusicCast Bar 400 soundbars support 4K Ultra HD TVs with 3D surround sound with DTS Virtual:X. Connectivity includes wi-fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, optical and HDMI inputs and they can be paired with either the MusicCast 20 or 50. The MusicCast Bar 40 has 2x 50W power output, while the MusicCast Bar 400 doubles the power output and throws a wireless subwoofer into the bundle. They cost £500 and £600 respectively.
Completing the family is the £500 MusicCast Sub 100. It offers wi-fi and a 3.5mm stereo mini output, has a 20cm driver and a claimed 130W power output. All models will be available from September and you can find out more here.
