Marantz introduces Horizon and Grand Horizon wireless speakers

Marantz has introduced two new wireless speaker models: the Horizon and its larger sibling, the Grand Horizon, which the company describes as: “wireless speakers crafted for passionate, discerning listeners who demand both exceptional sound and timeless elegance”.

Both are designed to match the brand’s signature circular porthole motif, with the porthole “reimagined” as the core element of each speaker’s circular form. Combined with lighting and elevated trim materials designed to highlight the architectural symmetry, Marantz says the result is a: “tactile audio experience you can see, hear and feel”. Each model is wrapped in Marantz Radiance 360° Seamless Ecofiber, a bespoke, sustainable fabric made from recycled ocean plastics.

Three finishes are available: Dark Midnight Sky, Bright Moon Ray and warm Marantz Champagne. Each is complemented by a natural, colour-matched marble base. Marantz is also offering an American walnut tripod floor stand as an optional accessory for Horizon, while wall brackets will also be available for both models if desired.

Both Horizon and Grand Horizon are designed around a configuration of high-frequency and midrange drive units that radiate outwardly from a single central bass driver in a bid to ensure a spacious listening experience. Both boast Marantz Rise amplification, which is based around thermally efficient GaN FET technology and offers 310W of output in the Horizon and 370W in the Grand Horizon (FTC power output rating) respectively. This core propels an array of high-quality Marantz Gravity drive units, each of which employs neodymium magnets for accuracy, responsiveness and low distortion. At the heart of Horizon is a 165mm bass driver complemented by two 25mm silk-dome tweeters and three 50mm full-range drive units. Grand Horizon, as the larger speaker in the lineup, scales that to a 200mm bass driver, three 25mm tweeters and four 76mm midrange drivers.

Marantz says: “the sonic characteristics of this sophisticated acoustic platform can be optimised to suit both your mood and your music using the powerful on-board Marantz Mirage”. Accessible via the HEOS app, the Mirage digital signal processing allows for a customisable listening experience, with selectable options that can tailor the clarity, spaciousness and warmth of the sound to each user’s tastes.

Horizon and Grand Horizon both boast on-board proximity sensors. Marantz AuraControl user interaction combines 100 LEDs with proximity and ambient light sensors to create: “a seamless symphony of light and sound… Just touch the illuminated ring around the central subwoofer to indicate your preferred volume and AuraControl will instantly bring the speaker up to the point you have chosen, clearly indicating the volume level with markings that reference the classic Marantz Star logo”.

The Horizon and Grand Horizon have been designed around Marantz’s HEOS wireless music platform, so can access music content from a wide range of supported streaming providers including Amazon Music, Deezer, Spotify and Tidal, with more services planned to follow in the future. For added convenience with mobile devices, Apple AirPlay2 and Bluetooth are also included, and physical connected sources are catered for. Horizon and Grand Horizon include analogue, optical and HDMI inputs, and can also access music from locally connected USB-C music drives. Onboard Dolby decoding ensures compatibility with Dolby Atmos supplied via HDMI, too.

The Marantz Horizon measures (WxHxD) 210 x 364 x 388mm and is priced at £3,250. The Grand Horizon measures 255 x 493 x 529mm and is priced at £5,250. The Marantz Horizon Tripod Stand costs £650.
