Auralic adds Altair G1 and Sirius G2
Founded in 2009, Auralic quickly earned a reputation for its range of high-quality streaming models and has now unveiled plans to launch two extra components – which go on sale this summer – and expand its networked digital source range even further. Starting with the more affordable of the new additions, the £1,899 Altair G1 is an updated version of the original Altair preamp/DAC/streamer all-in-one built around the series matching Aries G1 chassis with 4in colour display. It claims to benefit from several updates taken straight from the company’s G1 and G2 series designs and is fitted with an ESS 9038Q2M DAC chipset and sports a Tesla G2 processor with 2GB of memory. It supports Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify Connect music streaming services, has Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and is compatible with Roon.
The Sirius G2 is billed as an upsampling processor that’s “designed to optimise and improve the performance of any DAC in its native or most comfortable sweet spot”, says Auralic. Priced at £5,499, the Sirius G2 uses the company’s Proteus G2 FPGA co-processing platform and can accept any input data with sampling rates from 44.1 to 384kHz in PCM or DSD64 to DSD512. Keep an eye on the Auralic website for details.
