It might have the appearance of a speaker that looks like it’s sinking into the ground on which it’s standing, but there’s a theory behind the rather unique design of XTZ Sound’s Tune 4 loudspeaker. Believing that the vast majority of people that have hi-fi setups at home tend to place their speakers below ear level – thus resulting in a less defined sound, due to the tweeter being off axis relative to the listener’s ear – Tune 4 has come up with the tilted baffle. And what about those that do have their speakers positioned at ear level, we hear you ask. Well XTZ Sound has thought of this and added a special foot. But that’s not all that looks different to the norm. The Tune 4 also boasts an off-centre tweeter as the company believes that it offers a more even frequency response.

XTZ Sound describes the Tune 4 as providing: “A big soundstage with true hi-fi-performance loud enough to shake the dance floor”. And in an effort to appeal to those that are short on room, the Tune 4 is a reasonably sized 140 x 252 x 180mm (WxHxD) and comes with a built-in Class D amplifier offering 2x 50W power output. Also bundled under the hood is a DAC (claimed to be able to process “24-bit” files) and Digital Signal Processing technology, which is claimed to make the speaker sound more detailed and dynamic than what’s possible with a normal speaker of this size.

Capable of accepting both analogue and digital inputs, wireless streaming via Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX is also available.

Constructed from extra thick MDF for low resonance and a more dynamic sound, the Tune 4 has also been made tamper-proof to keep kid’s wandering hands at bay. The tweeter has a protective function so kids can’t push it in, while the woofer doesn’t have a dust cap that they can damage.

Available to buy now for €480, the Tune 4 is provided with an aluminum remote control and is available in a choice of matte white or matte black finishes, while an optional stand is also available. Find out more here.
