Based in Baia Mare in Romania, Meze is attempting to go its own way when it comes to headphone production and its unique approach centres on its use of wood. The Meze 99 Classics is the latest in the Classics series, using real Walunut and Maple for the earcups. Each earcup is processed on a five-axis CNC machine and then polished by hand. The design of the 99 Classics is not purely aesthetic, but also practical says Meze, with each component being held together with screws only. This makes the Meze 99 Classics a fully servicable pair of headphones, meaning that each and every part can be replaced individualy should it go wrong over time.

Designed by industrial designer Antonio Meze, the headphones went through a two year development process of fine tuning to reach the desired sound.Colour schemes include Walnut Gold, Walnut Silver and Maple Silver. The soundstage has been described as "huge” and "well-tuned” for a pair of closed back headphones. The headphones are available to buy now for £309 and you can find out more here.

The 99 Classics are over-ear, closed-back headphones with 400 mm dynamic rivers, claiming a quoted sensitivity of 103dB/mW. They come with two sets of detachable Kevlar-wrapped OFC cable with an inline mic/controller, 3.5mm mini-jack and hard-shell travel case.
