Ophidian introduces FFION loudspeaker

The Ophidian FFION loudspeaker has just been launched. Named after company founder Gareth James’ newborn daughter, the FFION features a cabinet design that tapers from base to top both laterally and front to back – a design engineered to combine both the imaging of a compact speaker with the bass weight of a full-size floorstander.

The 125mm alloy midrange driver features a solid aluminium phase plug and dual shorting paths in its voice coil circuit design to reduce distortion. Situated in its own sealed sub-section of the cabinet, the company says it provides: “lifelike vocals while matching evenly with the outputs from the woofer and tweeter”.

Ophidian goes on to note that: “the 22mm soft dome tweeter features a wide roll surround for excellent dispersion characteristics meaning great sound staging and integration with the midrange unit. Sonolex coating keeps breakup under control and enables a smooth listening experience.”

At the rear of the cabinet are high-quality WBT binding posts, while finishes include Walnut real wood veneer or a 16-layer process paint lacquer in any RAL colour of the customer’s choosing. The speakers measure 264 x 1,020 x 300mm (WxHxD) and weigh 20kg.

Available to buy now for £8,500 , you can find out more about the FFION loudspeaker here.
